The Police have initiated an investigation following a complaint received at the Police Headquarters regarding an alleged sexual assault at the Negombo General Hospital.<\/p>\n
The incident reportedly occurred on March 31, when a young woman visited the hospital with her mother for treatment of a toothache and skin condition.<\/p>\n
According to the complaint filed with the Negombo Police Station through the hospital’s Director, a doctor who examined the woman is accused of sexually assaulting her.<\/p>\n
On April 2, the woman was examined by the Judicial Medical Officer, but the police said that she was dissatisfied with the findings of the medical report.<\/p>\n
As a result, steps have been taken for the woman to undergo an examination by a special medical board.<\/p>\n
In response to the incident, the Government Medical Officers Association issued a statement stating that the doctor involved in this incident has been expelled from the Government Medical Officers Association, citing past violations of the association’s constitution and unethical behavior.<\/p>\n
The association emphasized the need for a thorough, impartial investigation into the incident, calling for immediate legal action and strict penalties for those responsible.<\/p>\n
